In , he immigrated to Canada where he met the love of his life, Wilhelmina Vanderkooy formerly of Den Haag, Netherlands. They were married on November 24th, in Toronto, Ontario and have been dedicated to each other since. He purchased Muskoka Printing and Duplicating, later renamed Aben Graphics, establishing a family business that has been operating for over 40 years.

His favourite pastimes included playing cards, golfing, and fishing at his cottages in Ardoch and Kipawa. But perhaps his most favourite pastimes were the times he spent with his grandchildren. Norma and their six children: James Paula , David Yvonne , Mary Eric , Rosanne Doug , Tammy Russell , and Paula, 16 grandchildren, pre-deceased by one , and 10 great-grandchildren rest in the assurance that they will see him again in eternity. He then moved back to Toronto with his family where he worked as an electrician and dedicated his life to Christian ministry. Jim loved all things musical, and all things Muskoka.

He drove his boat on Mary Lake until the day his earthly body would not allow him to do so. He was known for playing all instruments from the organ to the accordion and everything in between. He had a zest for life: boating, waterskiing, photography, videography, and so much more. He mastered his interests and shared them with the world. His never-ending love for his wife of 62 years Norma, his family, his work ethic, love for life and passion for Christ will be his legacy. A Celebration of Life will be held at Riverside Baptist Church in Huntsville Ontario on Saturday August 31 st with visitation from 1pm-3pm and service at 3pm with light refreshments to follow.

Born September 23, , Peter was raised in Pointe Au Baril, Ontario, where his family operated a general store and restaurant. It was while studying there that he met Lynda, who would become his wife of 56 years. After completing a second degree in Physical Education at McMaster University, Peter began a long and successful career as a high school teacher. A northern boy at heart, Peter and Lynda moved from Toronto to Huntsville in , shortly after the birth of their first daughter Casey.

Their second daughter Erin was welcomed in They purchased the former Rowanwood Lodge waterfront property on Mary Lake in which became their family home for many happy years. Peter was a respected teacher and coach at Huntsville High School for 30 years. As Head of the Physical Education Department, Peter taught hundreds of students the joys of sport, but even more importantly the value and importance of leadership. His trademark calm but assertive coaching presence behind the bench on the basketball court or on the soccer field was legendary. For the last ten years of his career, Peter was the Head of the HHS Guidance Department, where he was instrumental in developing the highly successful co-operative education program.

As a long time volunteer, he chaired numerous committees and worked tirelessly behind the scenes to secure grants and funding, and improve the facilities and access to recreational opportunities for all Huntsville citizens. This dedication resulted in Peter recently being named to the Huntsville Sports Hall of Fame in the Builder category, and a room named in his honour at the Huntsville Summit Centre.

A voracious reader, card player and trivia buff, Peter also enjoyed playing many sports including basketball, hockey, golf and in particular, tennis. He was an avid sports fan, patiently waiting all year for March Madness so he could cheer on his beloved Duke Blue Devils.

Mary Christine Karn. No matter what part of her life she reflected upon, memories brought smiles. She never said no to an invitation to travel, to the theatre, to a party. She embraced life — her vibrant and positive outlook were inspirational. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Chris Karn. Chris died peacefully in Huntsville ON, surrounded by family on August 8, at the age of She worked briefly as a dietitian at the Halifax General Hospital and taught adult night school home economics classes for the Montreal School Board.

She later completed a B. Chris met Gordon Karn, the love of her life, while at university.

She and Gordon married in June and shared 36 wonderful years together in Montreal until his death in Above all, Chris was the ultimate wife and mother, homemaker and family manager. She was a committed volunteer with the Montreal Junior League and managed the Opportunity Shop for many years. She was a brilliant bridge player and Life Master, skier, lifelong learner, active community member, avid reader, excellent cook, skilled seamstress, quilter, knitter and gardener.

She was fiercely proud of her family and loved her sons-in-law and daughter-in-law like her own. She introduced Gordon to the lake on their honeymoon and has since shared Treetops with the next three generations. Nothing made her happier than knowing family and friends were enjoying the cottage. An army of people will remember Chris for her thoughtfulness, wisdom, generosity and kindness.

She was a small person who made a big impact. To her children and family, she leaves a legacy of the value of hard work, an open mind and the power of kindness. Chris enjoyed 8 years at Chartwell Traditions in Huntsville.
